The college's story began in 1984, born from the vision and determination of leaders within the Fort Belknap Indian Community Council and its Education Department. These visionary founders recognized that off-reservation programs simply weren't adequately serving the post-secondary educational needs of their people. This led to the creation of a Public tribal land-grant community college specifically designed to uplift and empower its community members, providing essential academic pathways and practical skills tailored to local aspirations.

Today, Aaniiih Nakoda College continues this vital mission, providing comprehensive academic and vocational programs designed to equip students for successful futures.
