Allen County Community College

Allen County Community College (ACCC) boasts a rich history of growth and dedication to student success, evolving from a local high school expansion into a vibrant, independent educational institution. Established in 1923 as Iola Junior College, it initially served as an extension of Iola High School, quickly demonstrating the community's need for higher education with an initial enrollment of 93 students. This unique beginning laid the groundwork for ACCC's commitment to accessibility and local development, culminating in its transformation into a county-wide community college in 1965.

The college truly began to flourish following a successful $1.5 million bond issue in 1966, leading to the construction of its dedicated 90-acre Iola Campus, which officially opened its doors in 1970. ACCC quickly became known for its robust agricultural program, significantly enhanced by the 1979 purchase of a 250-acre farm, complete with dedicated animal and classroom facilities, and later, a horse barn. This commitment to hands-on learning extends to modern facilities like the 15,000 square foot Technology Building and an Interactive Television Studio, ensuring students are equipped for contemporary challenges.

Beyond academics, Allen County Community College prioritizes a comprehensive student experience. With on-campus housing options like the 96-bed Horton Hall (opened 1969) and the 56-bed Winter Hall (constructed 1983), students find a supportive living environment. The campus also features an Activities Building, a fitness center, and an all-weather track, providing ample opportunities for recreation and well-being. ACCC's dedication to its agricultural students is further exemplified by the Zahn Scholarship House, offering a unique residential opportunity.
