Alverno College

Alverno College, a distinguished private women's college, boasts a rich heritage rooted in its founding year of 1887. Guided by its inspiring motto, "In Sanctitate et Doctrina" (In Holiness and Learning), Alverno has consistently focused on providing an empowering educational environment. With a close-knit community of 1,322 students, the college offers a unique experience designed to foster growth and leadership.

The institution's journey began as St. Joseph's Normal School, chartered in 1887, reflecting its initial dedication to teacher education. It evolved significantly, becoming Alverno Teachers College in 1936, before finally adopting its current and well-recognized name, Alverno College, in 1946. This evolution underscores its enduring commitment to education and adaptability over more than a century.

In recent times, Alverno College welcomed Milwaukee native Christy L. Brown as its ninth president in April 2023. The college has since embarked on a strategic restructuring phase to address operational deficits, with the board of trustees declaring "financial exigency" and initiating plans to streamline operations, optimize academic programs, and reallocate resources, ensuring Alverno's enduring commitment to its mission.
