Amberton University

Amberton University stands as a testament to educational evolution and independence, offering a focused learning experience within a private university setting. Since its founding in 1971, Amberton has steadily carved out a distinctive niche, particularly appealing to students seeking a flexible and career-oriented academic path. The university’s journey began humbly as ACC Metrocenter, a branch of Abilene Christian College, initially conducting classes in Mesquite with a unique focus on a criminal justice program tailored for police officers. This foundational program, though later phased out, set a precedent for Amberton’s adaptive nature. By 1974, the institution established its own dedicated 60,000-square-foot campus, marking a significant step towards autonomy. Its identity further solidified in 1976, aligning with its parent institution as Abilene Christian University at Dallas, before embarking on its path to full independence.

Achieving full independence in 1981 as Amber University, the institution demonstrated its unwavering commitment to self-governance and tailored educational offerings. This pivotal moment allowed Amberton to fully embrace its unique mission. The university continued its growth into the 21st century, officially becoming Amberton University in 2001 and expanding its reach with a branch campus in Frisco, Texas, in 2006. Under the leadership of its third president, Carol A. Palmer, appointed in 2025, Amberton University continues to foster an environment where students can thrive and achieve their academic and professional goals, guided by its Latin motto, 'Rogamus ut Discamus' – 'We ask that we may learn.'
