About Angelina College
Invest in your future at Angelina College, a public community college committed to student success.
Angelina College stands as a cornerstone of accessible higher education, proudly serving its community as a public community college since its inception. Embodying its powerful motto, "Invest In Yourself. Invest In Your Future.," the college provides a welcoming and supportive environment where students can pursue academic excellence, develop vital career skills, and lay the foundation for a brighter tomorrow. It's a place where personal growth and professional preparation go hand-in-hand, making quality education attainable for a diverse student body.
The college's rich history began with its official founding on September 24, 1966, marking a significant step for regional education. Visionary leadership quickly took shape with the election of Jack Hudgins as the first president on December 12, 1966. Construction of the original seven-building campus commenced in November 1967, culminating in the college proudly opening its doors to its inaugural class of students in the fall of 1968, eager to make a lasting impact on their lives and the community.
Angelina College has maintained a remarkable continuity of leadership throughout its history, with only three presidents guiding its growth. After a distinguished tenure, Jack Hudgins stepped down in 1991, passing the torch to Larry Phillips. In a lasting tribute to its founding president, the Fine Arts Building was honorably renamed Hudgins Hall in 2001. Today, Michael Simon serves as the college's third president, having succeeded Larry Phillips in 2015, continuing a legacy of dedication to student success and community advancement.
