Anna Maria College

Anna Maria College, originally established in 1946 as a women's college by the Sisters of Saint Anne, built a legacy of education and community in Massachusetts. Starting in Marlborough, the college soon found its permanent home in Paxton in 1951, achieving accreditation by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges just four years later. This period marked the beginning of its evolution, transforming from a women's institution to a coeducational college in 1973, and expanding its academic offerings with graduate degree programs starting in 1974.

Throughout its history, Anna Maria College demonstrated a commitment to broader societal needs. A significant milestone occurred in 1980 when the Sisters of Saint Anne transitioned from direct involvement, and a Board of Trustees took the helm, guiding the college's future. This spirit of community engagement was further exemplified in 2004 with the establishment of the Molly Bish Center for the Protection of Children and the Elderly, showcasing its dedication beyond traditional academics.

However, like many institutions, Anna Maria College faced significant challenges. Despite its rich history and contributions, ongoing financial difficulties led to a difficult decision. In April 2026, college leaders announced the institution would cease operations after the Spring 2026 semester. To support its students during this transition, comprehensive transfer pathway agreements were arranged with several partner institutions, ensuring that students could continue their academic journeys seamlessly. The college officially closed its doors on May 10, 2026, with Regis College taking stewardship of its academic records.
