Originally established as Mississippi County Community College, ANC's journey began with Harry V. Smith at the helm as its first president in February 1975. This foundational period laid the groundwork for an institution deeply rooted in serving its local community. Over the decades, under leaders like John P. Sullins, who succeeded Smith in 1983, the college has continuously adapted to meet the evolving needs of its students and the regional workforce.

A testament to ANC's dedication to its students' holistic well-being is the innovative child care center, opened in 2003, which provides free daycare for up to 54 children of students. This crucial support allows student parents to pursue their education with peace of mind. Furthermore, a significant $13 million project initiated in 2015 unified the Harry L. Crisp Center, the Burdette Center, and the Aircraft & Metals Engineering Center, signifying ANC's ongoing investment in modern, integrated learning environments that enhance the student experience.
