Arkansas State University Three Rivers (ASU Three Rivers) represents a remarkable journey of educational evolution, growing from a vocational technical school into a dynamic, comprehensive college within the esteemed ASU System. The institution's rich history began in July 1969 as the Ouachita Vocational Technical School, opening its doors to 292 pioneering students in January 1972. Initially focused on essential certificate programs such as automotive repair, food service, and cosmetology, the school laid the groundwork for hands-on learning. A pivotal moment arrived in 1991 when Governor Bill Clinton's legislation transformed the state's vocational institutions, reorganizing it into a two-year accredited college and renaming it Ouachita Technical College, significantly broadening its academic horizon.

This transformation ushered in a new era of academic strength, with the college introducing a wider array of associate programs. Students could now pursue degrees in high-demand fields like nursing, business administration, manufacturing technology, and criminal justice, alongside its foundational technical programs.
