Established in July 1969 as Ouachita Vocational Technical School, the institution began shaping futures in January 1972 with 292 students enrolled in practical certificate programs like automotive repair, food service, and cosmetology, laying a strong foundation for career-focused education.

A pivotal moment arrived in 1991 when Governor Bill Clinton signed legislation that elevated the state's vocational-technical institutions into accredited two-year colleges.
