About Art Academy of Cincinnati

Art Academy of Cincinnati: Driving creativity and urban renewal since 1869.

The Art Academy of Cincinnati (AAC) stands as a vibrant, independent college of art and design, committed to nurturing artistic talent and making a tangible difference in the world. With a motto to "Make Art, Make a Difference," AAC offers a diverse range of programs, including an Associate of Science in Graphic Design, various Bachelor of Fine Arts specializations (Creative Writing, Design, Illustration, Painting and Drawing, Photography, Print Media, and Sculpture), and a Master of Arts in Art Education, tailored for aspiring artists and educators.

AAC's journey into independence in 1998, legally separating from the museum, marked a pivotal moment in its rich history, which dates back to its founding in 1869. This move solidified its identity as a focused institution dedicated solely to higher education in art and design. A significant transformation occurred in 2005 when the Academy relocated to its current facility at 1212 Jackson St. in Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine neighborhood, playing a crucial role in revitalizing the area into a thriving arts district.

Students at AAC benefit from an environment designed to foster creativity and security, including 24-hour access to facilities. The Academy ensures that all junior and senior students receive guaranteed studio spaces, providing dedicated areas for their artistic development. The state-of-the-art facility boasts an open-air atrium, enlarged classrooms, modern computer labs, a student commons area, a lecture hall, and a comprehensive Learning Services Center. Demonstrating a commitment to sustainability, the building also received Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) Green Building certification in 2008.

To further enhance the student experience, AAC encourages out-of-town freshmen to reside in the Academy Housing Facility. Recent renovations in 2020, a collaboration with Urban Sites, introduced 33 new loft-style apartments capable of housing 110 students. These apartments come equipped with fully furnished kitchens, and communal laundry facilities are available, creating a comfortable and supportive living environment with resident advisors on premises.
