Aspen University

Aspen University stands as a private, for-profit online institution dedicated to providing accessible education, particularly within the crucial field of nursing. Serving a substantial student body of 7,386 individuals, the university prides itself on its flexible distance learning model, allowing students to pursue their academic and career aspirations from various locations across the globe.

The university's roots stretch back to the 1960s as the International Academy. It underwent a significant transformation in 1987, establishing the Information Institute and rebranding as the International School of Information Management (ISIM), with a keen focus on emerging information technologies. This evolution continued until 2003, when ISIM adopted its current identity as Aspen University, founded by Patrick Spada, who served as its chairman, President, and CEO until 2011.

Aspen University has made notable strides in professional accreditation, particularly within its nursing programs. Its RN to BSN Program achieved CCNE accreditation on March 12, 2014, a significant milestone for its online nursing education. The university is currently led by President Cheri St. Arnauld.

However, prospective students should be aware of recent challenges; in 2021, its nursing exam pass rates in Arizona fell below state standards, and by 2022, new enrollments were suspended for pre-licensure nursing programs in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and Texas. A class action suit was also filed in 2022, alleging violations of Arizona's Consumer Fraud Act.
