ASPIRA City College stands as a beacon of opportunity in Philadelphia, tracing its roots back to May 22, 1974. Initially incorporated as the Metropolitan Collegiate Center of Germantown and operating as ACT Business Academy, its founding mission was clear: to provide vital short-term job readiness training to disadvantaged youth. This commitment to upliftment and practical education has remained a cornerstone of its identity, evolving significantly over the decades to meet the changing demands of the workforce.

From its humble beginnings, the institution steadily grew in scope and reputation. It earned its license as a private career school in 1987, allowing it to offer diploma programs like Basic Office Skills. A pivotal moment arrived in 1994 when it achieved national accreditation from the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) under the new name, Metropolitan Career Center. This accreditation underscored its dedication to high educational standards and prepared it for its next major academic expansion.

Today, ASPIRA City College is recognized for its robust academic strengths, particularly in career-focused technology programs. By 1998, it was approved to award the Associate in Specialized Technology (AST) Degree, offering pathways in fields such as Computer Technician – Software and Computer Technician – Hardware, alongside its innovative Web Design Program. These programs are designed to equip students with the tangible skills needed to succeed in today's competitive job market, fostering a student experience centered on career readiness and professional development.
