Bakersfield College

Bakersfield College stands as a vital public community college, proudly serving a vibrant student body of 46,500. Nestled "on the hill" in northeast Bakersfield, its panoramic bluffs offer inspiring views overlooking the historic Kern River Oil Field, providing a unique backdrop for learning and growth. Under the leadership of interim President Stacy Pfluger, the college continues its long-standing tradition of accessible education.

The college boasts a rich history, beginning its journey in 1913 as Bakersfield Junior College. Initially sharing facilities with Bakersfield High School, it quickly grew to establish its own identity. A significant milestone occurred in 1947 when it officially dropped "Junior" from its name, reflecting its expanding scope and maturity. The institution found its permanent, iconic home in 1956, moving to the prominent "Panorama Bluffs" site that students know today.

As a public community college, Bakersfield College is dedicated to providing diverse academic pathways and foundational learning experiences. Its extensive student population indicates a wide array of programs designed to meet the educational and career goals of a broad community. Students at Bakersfield College become part of a large, supportive environment, benefiting from a heritage of quality education that prepares them for further university study or direct entry into the workforce.
