BGU's profound roots trace back to a global network initiated by Billy Graham's Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization in the early 1970s. This foundational connection meant that when BGU officially began in the early 2000s, it already boasted an established student body and faculty spanning over 50 countries. Central to its mission is the value statement, "The Whole World, the Whole City, the Whole Church, the Whole Gospel and the Whole Person," reflecting a holistic commitment to impact.

The university's distinctive vision was even reflected in its early naming discussions.
