The university's journey began in 1943 in Lakeland, Florida, initially known as the Florida Baptist Institute. Over the decades, it evolved, undergoing several name changes from the Baptist Bible Institute in 1945, to the Florida Baptist Theological College in 1988, and then The Baptist College of Florida in 2000. A pivotal moment arrived in 1953 when the institution moved to its present scenic location in Graceville, Florida, further solidifying its presence and community ties. This rich history underscores a continuous commitment to its foundational principles, even as it adapted to serve its students and mission more effectively.

Most recently, November 2023 marked a significant milestone as the institution embraced its current identity as the Baptist University of Florida. This rebranding included a comprehensive refresh of its logo, color scheme, and visual identity, reflecting a forward-looking vision while honoring its storied past. Under the leadership of President Clayton Cloer, BUF continues to be a beacon for students seeking an education deeply integrated with faith, preparing them to lead and serve with purpose and integrity in a rapidly changing world.
