Barry University, a vibrant private institution nestled in Miami Shores, Florida, offers a unique educational journey grounded in a rich heritage. With a thriving student body of 6,825, it stands as a testament to its distinctive origins and enduring commitment to community and learning.

Its compelling history began in 1940 with the founding of Barry College for Women by a remarkable sibling duo: Bishop Patrick Barry and his sister, Mary Gerald Barry, OP, then prioress of the Adrian Dominican Sisters. What was once a "tract of tropical vegetation" quickly blossomed into a five-building main campus. Mother Mary Gerald Barry, OP, served as president for over two decades, guiding the institution's foundational years. The college proudly evolved into Barry University on November 13, 1981, while maintaining its deep roots and continued sponsorship by the Dominican Sisters of Adrian, Michigan.

Today, Barry University operates as an independent 501(c)(3) organization, governed by an independent board of trustees, ensuring its mission-driven approach to education. Under the leadership of President Mike Allen, and supported by an endowment of $0.1 billion, Barry continues to provide a supportive and engaging environment.
