Barton College

Barton College boasts a compelling history, rooted in its incorporation as Atlantic Christian College on May 1, 1902. Born from the purchase of the Kinsey Seminary in 1901, the college initially welcomed 107 students and 7 faculty members. Decades later, on September 6, 1990, the institution embraced a new identity, renaming itself Barton College in homage to Barton Warren Stone, a significant founder of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with strong ties to the region.

Committed to academic excellence and innovation, Barton College has maintained continuous accreditation by the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools since 1953, a testament to its enduring quality. Demonstrating a forward-thinking approach to education, the college expanded its reach through the Division of Lifelong Learning, establishing eastern North Carolina's Barton Weekend College in the fall of 1990.
