Barton College

The college's journey began on May 1, 1902, when it was incorporated as Atlantic Christian College by the North Carolina Christian Missionary Convention, building upon the foundation of the Kinsey Seminary purchased in 1901. From its modest beginnings with 107 students and 7 faculty, the institution has grown while maintaining its affiliation with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). A significant milestone occurred on September 6, 1990, when the college adopted its current name, Barton College, honoring Barton Warren Stone, a pivotal figure in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) tradition active in eastern North Carolina.
