What began as the Bangor Business School with a modest cohort of less than 25 students quickly grew, demonstrating a commitment to practical learning that has defined the institution for over a century. From its earliest days offering courses in banking, accounting, and shorthand, Beal has consistently evolved to meet the demands of the professional world.

Throughout its history, Beal University has been a beacon for students seeking direct pathways to successful careers. It transitioned from a specialized business school, Miss Beal's School of Shorthand and Typing, to Beal College of Business, consistently expanding its offerings. By its 50th anniversary, the institution was providing multiple two-year degree programs in fields like business, administration, and secretarial studies, solidifying its reputation as a significant educational force, once noted as one of the largest of its kind in Maine.

Today, Beal University, a private institution with 429 students, continues its tradition of innovation. It pioneered the offering of associate degrees in science in 1968 and achieved accreditation as a junior college of business in 1970. This forward-thinking approach ensures that Beal remains dedicated to providing relevant, hands-on education designed to prepare students for immediate entry and advancement in their chosen professions, all under the guidance of President Sheryl DeWalt.
