The college's journey began in 1945 as Schillinger House, founded by Lawrence Berk, an MIT graduate with a vision. Initially serving working professionals and G.I. Bill beneficiaries, the institution quickly grew. By 1954, reflecting an expanded curriculum that included traditional theory and music education, it was renamed Berklee School of Music.
