Black Hawk College

Black Hawk College stands as a cornerstone of accessible higher education in Illinois, serving as a dynamic public community college. With a robust offering that spans traditional liberal arts, practical vocational training, and essential adult education programs, the college is designed to meet the diverse needs and aspirations of its nearly 3,800 students under the leadership of President Jeremy Thomas.

The institution's journey began modestly in 1946 as Moline Community College, initially sharing space with Moline High School. Over the decades, it has blossomed and evolved, officially becoming Black Hawk College in 1961. This transformation marked the beginning of significant expansion, solidifying its commitment to broader regional service. The college's strategic growth saw it extend operations to Kewanee in 1967, and by 1971, it unveiled its East Campus near Galva, which proudly houses specialized agriculture and horticulture programs, further diversifying its academic portfolio.

Today, Black Hawk College operates with a distinctive multi-campus model, officially recognized as one college with two main campuses by the Illinois Community College Board in 1989. In addition to its full-service locations in Moline and the East Campus in Galva, it extends its reach through an Outreach Center in East Moline, an Adult Learning Center in Rock Island, and a Community Education Center in Kewanee. This distributed presence underscores its deep commitment to community engagement and providing flexible, quality educational opportunities right where students live and work.
