Black Hawk College

Black Hawk College stands as a vital public community college, providing comprehensive educational pathways from its inception in 1946. With its main campus nestled in Moline and an expansive East Campus near Kewanee, this institution is a cornerstone for learning in the region. The college's journey began as Moline Community College, co-located with Moline High School. After Moline High moved to new facilities in 1958, the college evolved, officially becoming Black Hawk College in 1961. Its dedication to accessibility and regional service spurred significant expansion, including the establishment of operations in Kewanee in 1967 and the opening of the specialized East Campus in Galva in 1971. This growth culminated in 1989 when the Illinois Community College Board formally recognized it as a single college operating across two distinct, full-service campuses.

Today, Black Hawk College continues its mission with 3,773 students, fostering a vibrant learning environment across its multiple locations. The East Campus, in particular, is a hub for specialized programs in agriculture and horticulture, offering hands-on experience and valuable industry-specific skills. Beyond its main campuses, the college extends its reach through additional learning centers, including the Outreach Center in East Moline, the Adult Learning Center in Rock Island, and the Community Education Center in Kewanee, ensuring that education remains accessible and responsive to the needs of the communities it proudly serves.
