Brescia's rich legacy began in 1925, founded by the pioneering Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph as Mount Saint Joseph Junior College for Women. What started as a women's institution offering extension courses in Owensboro soon evolved significantly. After World War II, the college broke new ground, consolidating its campuses and proudly becoming fully co-educational, marking a pivotal moment in its development.

In 1951, the institution adopted the name Brescia College, a homage to the Italian city where Saint Angela Merici founded the original Ursuline order. The commitment to growth continued, leading to another transformative change in 1998 when it became Brescia University. This new chapter brought with it the significant addition of Master's degree programs in Management and Curriculum and Instruction, expanding its academic offerings and appeal to a broader range of students seeking advanced studies.
