About BridgeValley Community & Technical College
BridgeValley: Empowering futures through innovative technical education and student success.
BridgeValley Community & Technical College is a vibrant public institution dedicated to empowering approximately 2,000 students for successful careers. Nestled within the modern South Charleston Technology Park, BridgeValley offers an engaging learning environment, boasting state-of-the-art facilities like the Advanced Technology Center, also known as Toyota Hall, ensuring students gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge technology. The college is committed to fostering student achievement, a core tenet that shapes its supportive academic atmosphere.
The college’s rich history dates back to 1953, originating as a vital community college component of what was then West Virginia State College. Over the decades, it evolved significantly, achieving accreditation in 2003 as West Virginia State Community and Technical College, and later gaining full legislative separation from West Virginia State University in 2008. This journey of growth continued with a rebranding in 2009 as Kanawha Valley Community and Technical College (KVCTC), marking its independence with its first solo commencement ceremony.
BridgeValley officially established itself in 2014, building on the strong foundation and commitment to student success forged by KVCTC. This dedication was nationally recognized in May 2012 when KVCTC earned the MAP-Works Overall Excellence Award for its innovative program aimed at student retention and achievement. Today, under the leadership of President Casey K. Sacks, BridgeValley continues this legacy, providing a forward-thinking education that prepares students not just for jobs, but for fulfilling and impactful careers in a rapidly evolving workforce.
