Bryan University boasts a remarkable history rooted in a deep commitment to education. What began in 1940 as the Bryan Stenotype School, founded by Mildred T. Bryan, literally started in her own living room with just three pioneering students. This intimate and dedicated beginning laid the groundwork for an institution that would evolve significantly over the decades.

The university's journey took a significant turn in 2005. Under the stewardship of its parent company, Alta Education, LLC, Bryan University expanded its geographic footprint and academic offerings. This pivotal year saw the establishment of a new campus in Sacramento, California, marking a new chapter in the university's growth.

With the opening of the Sacramento campus, Bryan University embraced the opportunity to introduce a wider array of degree programs, broadening its educational scope beyond its foundational stenotype training.
