Bushnell University

Bushnell University stands as a distinguished private Christian university, rooted deeply in a mission of faith-based education and service. The institution's fascinating journey began in 1895 as the Eugene Divinity School (EDS), founded by visionary Christian Church preacher Eugene Claremont Sanderson. Sanderson pioneered an innovative model where students would delve into biblical studies and Christian ministry at EDS while pursuing other subjects at the neighboring University of Oregon. This unique arrangement, a testament to its forward-thinking approach, continued for a remarkable 100 years until 1995, shaping generations of students through a blend of spiritual and secular learning.

Over the decades, the university experienced significant evolution, marked by several name changes reflecting its growth and broadened academic scope. From Eugene Bible University in 1908 to Eugene Bible College in 1930, and then Northwest Christian College after a merger in 1934, it consistently adapted while maintaining its core mission. In 2008, it became Northwest Christian University, and in 2020, it proudly adopted its current name, Bushnell University, honoring James A. Bushnell, the first chairman of its board of trustees. This rich history of adaptation and enduring purpose defines Bushnell's resilient spirit.
