California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB) stands as a cornerstone of higher education in the Southern San Joaquin Valley. Established in 1965, this vibrant public university, proudly part of the expansive California State University system, lives by its inspiring motto: "Runners on the rise!" CSUB's journey began as Kern State College, a direct response to the Donahoe Higher Education Act of 1960 and the persistent local demand for a four-year institution. By 1968, it was officially founded as California State College, Bakersfield, becoming the 20th school in the CSU system. From its very first classes in 1970, the university has continuously evolved, finally adopting its current name in 1988, symbolizing its growth and commitment to its mission.

Academically, CSUB offers a robust array of programs designed to meet the needs of a diverse student body and the regional economy. Students can choose from 39 bachelor's degree programs, 17 master's degree programs, and a doctoral program in Educational Leadership (Ed.D.). Notably, CSUB is home to the only public university petroleum geology program west of the Rockies, a testament to its unique academic strengths. Primarily a commuter campus, it serves as a vital educational gateway for over 10,600 students, including those at its satellite campus, the Antelope Valley Center. With blue and gold colors and the spirited Roadrunners as its mascot, CSUB instills a strong sense of community and determination, preparing its more than 59,000 alumni to make significant contributions in various fields.
