Cankdeska Cikana Community College

Cankdeska Cikana Community College (CCCC) stands as a beacon of higher education and cultural preservation on the Spirit Lake Reservation. As a public tribal land-grant community college, CCCC is uniquely dedicated to empowering the people of the Spirit Lake Dakota Nation, offering quality academic programs while deeply embedding the rich traditions of Dakota culture and language into its curriculum.

The journey of CCCC began modestly in 1965 with a single class offered by Lake Region State College. Under the guiding vision of tribal governance, this initiative blossomed, leading to the formal establishment and chartering of Cankdeska Cikana Community College by the Spirit Lake Dakota Nation in 1974. This historic step ensured that local community members had direct access to higher education, fostering self-determination and academic growth right on their ancestral lands.

Today, CCCC continues to build on this legacy. It proudly holds the designation as a land-grant college since 1994, a testament to its commitment to service and research. For students interested in community leadership, CCCC is notably one of only a handful of tribal colleges (seven as of 2011) nationwide to offer degrees related to tribal administration, preparing the next generation of leaders. With a close-knit community of 251 students, CCCC provides a supportive and culturally rich environment where every learner can thrive, connect with their heritage, and forge a path towards a brighter future.
