The college's journey began in 1973 as the Cape Fear School of Theology, established by Bill Owens with a vision for robust theological training. It evolved significantly when Ralph Richardson took the helm in 1978, leading to the purchase of a dedicated campus and the commencement of classes in 1980, at which point it proudly became Carolina Bible College. This foundational period set the stage for its continued growth and commitment to its mission, culminating in its current name, Carolina College of Biblical Studies, adopted in 2012.

Under the leadership of Dr. Bill F. Korver, who assumed the presidency in 2004, CCBS upholds a strong academic tradition. The college boasts a highly qualified faculty, with all 20 members in 2012 holding at least a master's degree, and over 25% having earned doctorates. This commitment to scholarly excellence ensures students receive instruction grounded in deep academic rigor and theological insight.
