The institution's journey began as the Cape Fear School of Theology in 1973, a vision brought to life by Bill Owens. Over the years, it evolved, first changing its name to Carolina Bible College in 1980 as it secured a dedicated campus and commenced classes under Ralph Richardson's leadership. This evolution culminated in its current identity, Carolina College of Biblical Studies, adopted in 2012, reflecting its comprehensive approach to biblical education.

The college prides itself on its exceptionally qualified faculty; in 2012, it was noted that all 20 faculty members held at least a master's degree, with over a quarter boasting earned doctorates.
