Catawba Valley Community College

Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) stands out for its innovative approach to early college education, offering a unique opportunity for high school students to earn both a high school diploma and an associate degree simultaneously. While the college's founding date is not specified, its modern significance is deeply rooted in these impactful collaborative programs.

At the heart of CVCC's academic strength are its Early College High Schools. The Challenger Early College High School, a collaborative effort with Catawba County Schools, North Carolina New Schools, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, is a prime example. This program annually accepts 100 motivated 8th graders from a pool of approximately 300 applicants across several county school systems. Students embark on a rigorous four- or five-year curriculum, seamlessly integrating high school and college courses, ultimately leading to a dual graduation.

Further extending its reach, CVCC hosts the Alexander Early College High School at its Alexander Center Campus. Established in 2016, this program offers students the chance to complete a high school diploma and an associate degree in just four years, with options in science, art, or business. Serving mainly local students, it also welcomes homeschooled and other area applicants, fostering a vibrant and accelerated learning environment for its approximately 230 students.
