Nestled in the vibrant heart of Honolulu, Chaminade University offers a distinctive educational journey deeply rooted in the Marianist tradition. The university's rich history traces back to Father William Joseph Chaminade, the resilient French Catholic priest who founded the Society of Mary in 1817. His vision of education as a powerful tool for societal change inspired Marianist missionaries to arrive in Honolulu in 1883, establishing the respected Saint Louis School. Decades later, with the encouragement of Saint Louis alumni, the Marianists expanded their mission, opening Saint Louis Junior College in 1955. This institution quickly evolved, becoming a four-year college under the name Chaminade College in 1957, and finally, Chaminade University of Honolulu in 1977 with the addition of graduate programs.
