Chartered in 1969 by the Ohio Board of Regents, originally as Cincinnati Technical College, the institution quickly established itself as a forward-thinking leader. Its campus, once home to Central Vocational and Courter Technical High Schools, has a rich educational heritage. Cincinnati State holds the distinction of being the first technical/community college in Ohio to completely ban smoking from campus buildings, demonstrating an early commitment to student well-being, and was also the first community college nationally to mandate cooperative education, setting a precedent for practical, career-focused learning.

Over the years, Cincinnati State has continuously invested in state-of-the-art facilities to support its diverse academic programs. The 1993 groundbreaking for the Health Professions Building significantly expanded resources for its growing nursing and health professions faculty.
