Clatsop Community College

Clatsop Community College holds a special place in Oregon's educational landscape as the state's very first community college, founded with a pioneering spirit in 1958. Located in a vibrant coastal region, CCC has been a cornerstone for local education, dedicated to providing accessible and high-quality learning opportunities for over six decades.

The college's history is a testament to its commitment to growth and community empowerment. Initially established under the direction of the Astoria Board of Education, CCC quickly laid the groundwork for a comprehensive educational experience. Its original curriculum offered a blend of two-year transfer programs, enabling students to seamlessly transition to four-year universities, alongside vital vocational sequences in Electronics, Business, Automotive, and Building Construction, directly addressing regional workforce needs. This innovative approach set the standard for community colleges across Oregon.

A significant milestone arrived in 1962 when Clatsop County residents voted to establish a county-wide education district, solidifying CCC's independence and its dedicated mission to serve the broader community. The college found its permanent home through the renovation of the former Astoria High School that same year. Demonstrating a continuous dedication to modern learning environments, CCC undertook the Jerome Campus Redevelopment project, breaking ground in 2008. This ambitious initiative has transformed the campus, resulting in beautifully renovated facilities like Towler Hall (the historic former high school) and Patriot Hall, complemented by the addition of the contemporary Columbia Hall, ensuring students learn in a state-of-the-art setting.
