It began as the Cleveland County Industrial and Adult Education Center, later becoming the Cleveland County Industrial Center and then the Cleveland County Technical Institute. A significant milestone occurred in 1969 when the institution moved to its present-day campus, settling into the former county home buildings. This established the physical foundation for the comprehensive college it would become.

In 1980, the college adopted its current and enduring name, Cleveland Community College, signifying its expanded role and commitment to higher education.
