About College of Eastern Idaho

CEI: Your pathway to real education, real jobs, and a real future in Eastern Idaho.

The College of Eastern Idaho (CEI) stands as a vibrant public community college in Idaho Falls, serving as a critical hub for career readiness and higher education transfer. Embodying its motto, "Real education. Real jobs. Real Life.", CEI is dedicated to equipping students with practical skills for immediate employment or providing a smooth transition to a four-year university. As one of only four comprehensive community colleges in Idaho, CEI plays a unique and essential role in the region's educational landscape.

CEI's roots trace back to 1969, when it was established as the Eastern Idaho Vocational Technical School. Over the years, it evolved into the Eastern Idaho Technical College, continually adapting to meet the region's workforce demands. A transformative moment occurred in May 2017 when the residents of Bonneville County voted to create a community college district, enabling the institution to expand its mission. This pivotal decision culminated in July 2017, when the Idaho State Board of Education completed the transition, officially establishing the College of Eastern Idaho as a comprehensive community college.

Academically, CEI offers a diverse range of programs across its key divisions: Business, Office, and Technology; Health Professions; Trades and Industry; and General Education. For students aspiring to continue their academic journey, CEI awards Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees, meticulously designed to facilitate seamless transfer to a four-year university. Beyond traditional degree pathways, the college is committed to community enrichment through offerings like Advanced Technical Certificates, adult basic education courses, GED testing, and vital workforce training, catering to a broad spectrum of educational needs for its 2,565 students (Fall 2023).
