About College of Eastern Idaho

Empowering Eastern Idaho with career-focused education and pathways to four-year degrees.

The College of Eastern Idaho (CEI) stands as a beacon of opportunity in Idaho Falls, a public community college renowned for its dedication to real-world education and preparing students for successful careers and seamless transfer to universities. As one of only four comprehensive community colleges in Idaho, CEI plays a crucial role in expanding access to higher education and workforce development across the region.

CEI's journey is a testament to community vision and educational evolution. Established in 1969 as the Eastern Idaho Vocational Technical School, it evolved through stages, becoming Eastern Idaho Technical College before making a pivotal transition. In May 2017, a resounding vote from Bonneville County residents paved the way for its transformation into a community college, solidifying its commitment to offering a broader range of academic pursuits. This transition was completed in July 2017, marking a new era of expanded educational possibilities.

Academically, CEI is structured into key divisions: Business, Office, and Technology; Health Professions; Trades and Industry; and General Education. Students can pursue Associate of Arts (AA) and Associate of Science (AS) degrees, specifically designed for those planning to continue their studies at a four-year university. Beyond transfer degrees, CEI provides Advanced Technical Certificates, adult basic education, GED testing, and robust workforce training programs, all underpinned by its motto: "Real education. Real jobs. Real Life."

Life at CEI is centered on a vibrant, small city campus spanning 60 acres. Students become part of the Falcon family, cheering on their mascot Frankie. With a dedicated staff of 154 and a student body of 2,565 as of Fall 2023, CEI offers a supportive environment where students can achieve their educational and career goals, whether they're just starting out or looking to advance in their chosen field.
