CSI's history is one of resilience and determination, born from a long-standing desire for accessible higher education in the region. Following earlier proposals and short-lived institutions, the dream truly took flight with the passage of the Idaho Junior College Act in 1963. Twin Falls County's voters quickly embraced the vision, forming a junior college district in 1964, joined by neighboring Jerome County the following year. CSI's first classes were held in Twin Falls High School in 1965, laying the groundwork for what would become one of Idaho's most influential educational institutions.

Today, CSI is not only celebrated for its academic pathways but also for its legendary men's basketball program, founded by the esteemed Eddie Sutton in 1967. Consistently a national contender at the community college level, home games are a major entertainment draw, routinely selling out and fostering an electric community spirit. Since moving to its own campus in 1968, CSI has continued its impressive trajectory, evolving into a vital hub that provides a strong foundation for thousands of students and significantly enriches the cultural and economic landscape of the Twin Falls region.
