College of the Muscogee Nation

The College of the Muscogee Nation (CMN) stands as a beacon of higher education, deeply rooted in the heritage and future of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. Established in 2004 by the Nation's own National Council, CMN is more than just a public tribal community college; it is a vital institution dedicated to preserving and advancing Muscogee (Creek) culture, language, and self-determination through education. With a close-knit student body of 127, CMN offers a unique academic environment where cultural identity is celebrated and integrated into the learning experience.

CMN's historical journey marks a significant achievement in tribal self-governance and educational sovereignty. In 2009, Muscogee (Creek) citizens solidified the college's importance by voting it into the Nation's constitution, making its Board of Regents an integral part of Article XIII. This constitutional backing underscores the profound commitment of the Muscogee (Creek) people to their educational institution, ensuring its stability and continued growth. Its recognition as a 1994 Land-Grant institution in the 2014 Farm Bill further highlights its role in serving its community through research, education, and extension programs.

Academically, CMN is rigorously accredited, having received Initial Accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission in 2016, which was successfully renewed in 2020, with the next review scheduled for 2026–2027. This ensures that students receive a quality education recognized across the nation. A remarkable aspect of CMN's faculty is its deep connection to indigenous communities; as of November 2020, an impressive 90% of the faculty were reported to be American Indian or Alaska Native, ensuring culturally relevant instruction and mentorship.
