College of the Siskiyous

Nestled in far northern California, the College of the Siskiyous (COS) offers a unique educational journey defined by stunning natural beauty and exceptional vocational training. Named for the iconic Siskiyou Mountains along the California-Oregon border, rather than Siskiyou County itself, COS provides a vibrant learning environment just 30 miles south of Oregon, serving a community of approximately 45,000 residents.

COS is renowned for its highly accredited and specialized programs, widely considered among the best in California. Prospective students can pursue excellence in fields such as Administration of Justice, Paramedic, and Nursing, all boasting accreditation from proper state agencies. The college's Fire Academy stands out as a premier training ground, with its Fire/Emergency Response Technology Program approved by the State Fire Marshal's Office, preparing students for critical roles in public safety.

The college's history began in 1957 with its founding after a special election, and its first buildings opened their doors on September 8, 1959. COS has been fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges since 1961. The Weed Campus offers extensive facilities including Herschel Meredith Stadium for athletics, Tom Powers Court at Eagle Gymnasium, John Mazzei Field for baseball, and the Kenneth W. Ford Theater for performances. It also features a tactical training center, a five-story fire training tower, a two-story science complex, and two on-campus resident lodges. In Yreka, COS extends its reach with the Rural Health Science Institute and Training Center, providing diverse opportunities for student growth and community engagement.
