Concordia University-Irvine

The genesis of Concordia University-Irvine dates back to a vision in 1955 by Dr. Victor Behnken for a preparatory college in the Pacific Southwest. This vision materialized when The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod (LCMS) agreed to establish the school in 1962. A generous offer from The Irvine Company provided its scenic present location, and in 1973, Rev. Dr. Charles Manske was called as the founding president, initially naming the institution Christ College Irvine.

A significant milestone in the university's history occurred in February 1993, when its Board of Regents voted to rename it Concordia University Irvine. This change also marked its proud integration as the tenth campus within the national Concordia University System (CUS). This affiliation means CUI is part of a much larger and robust educational network, as the LCMS operates the second largest church-operated school system in the United States, providing students with a rich legacy and a values-centered learning journey.
