Cosumnes River College

Cosumnes River College (CRC), a vital public community college founded on September 14, 1970, is a cornerstone of the Los Rios Community College District. Serving a vibrant student body of 14,439, CRC is dedicated to offering comprehensive educational opportunities that cater to both academic transfer and career technical pathways. From its meticulously planned inception, CRC has consistently evolved to meet the needs of its community, providing a dynamic environment for learning and personal growth.

The vision for CRC was first conceived in 1967, leading to the acquisition of a 180-acre campus and the systematic development of key facilities. The college opened its doors with an initial enrollment of approximately 2,150 students, quickly establishing itself as a hub for education. Over the decades, CRC has seen continuous expansion, with significant additions like the Business/Social Science building in 1975, a dedicated cafeteria in 1990, and a comprehensive College Center in 1991. Notably, Nacht & Lewis Architects, the original designers, also contributed to the modern Learning Resource Center, underscoring a consistent commitment to contemporary design and functionality.

Academic excellence at CRC is supported by state-of-the-art facilities and a diverse range of programs. Students benefit from specialized complexes for automotive and technology, visual and performing arts, and a permanent Child Development Center. The two-story Learning Resource Center houses specialized labs for English as a Second Language, Digital Media, Journalism, and a Math Center, fostering an environment for focused learning. Furthermore, the $18-million Winn Center for Construction and Architecture, supported by a generous $1-million gift, provides cutting-edge instructional space for programs in Construction, Pharmacy Technology, and Photography.

Beyond academics, CRC is committed to a holistic student experience. The Operations and Public Safety (OPS) building provides essential services including Health Services, Campus Operations, and a Los Rios Community College Police Department substation. The college's accessibility was significantly enhanced in 2015 with the extension of the Blue Line light rail service directly to a new campus station, making it easier than ever for students to access quality education.
