Criswell College

Criswell College, established in 1970 as the Criswell Bible Institute, stands as a distinguished private college deeply rooted in its founder's vision. Named after the revered W. A. Criswell, long-time pastor of the First Baptist Church of Dallas, the institution has consistently aimed to provide a robust educational experience with a strong emphasis on biblical studies. Though initially focused on theological training, its journey reflects a commitment to growth and academic excellence, supported significantly by benefactors like Ruth Ray Hunt.

Over the decades, Criswell College has evolved, undergoing name changes from the Criswell Bible Institute to the Criswell Center for Biblical Studies before adopting its current name in 1985. This evolution signifies a broadening scope while maintaining its foundational principles. Since 2001, the college has been proudly affiliated with the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention, a partnership that offers both support and shared values, though Criswell College remains independently owned and operated.

Academically, Criswell College offers a comprehensive range of programs, from Diplomas and Associate of Arts to Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts, and Master of Divinity degrees. A significant development in 2013 saw the board of trustees approve an expansion of the undergraduate curriculum, introducing compelling new majors such as Philosophy, Politics & Economics (PPE), Education, and Psychology. This expansion reflects the college's dedication to equipping its 165 students with diverse skills for a wide array of callings, preparing them not just spiritually but intellectually for impactful careers and lives.
