About Daemen University
Daemen University: A dynamic private university fostering interprofessional education and opportunity.
Daemen University, a private institution guided by the motto "A World of Opportunity," boasts a rich history of evolution and a steadfast commitment to student success. With a vibrant community of 2,536 students, Daemen provides a transformative educational experience that prepares graduates for meaningful careers and leadership in their fields.
Founded in 1947 as Rosary Hill College, a Catholic institution dedicated to women's liberal arts education, Daemen quickly demonstrated its adaptability. By the mid-1960s, it began admitting men, graduating its first male student in 1965. This spirit of inclusion culminated in 1976 when the institution transitioned to become Daemen College, a secular and independent university named in honor of Mother Magdalene Daemen. This journey from a women's college to a co-educational, independent university underscores its enduring dedication to broader educational access and forward-thinking progress.
Today, Daemen University is particularly recognized for its robust, hands-on learning approach, especially within health sciences and social work. The state-of-the-art Center for Interprofessional Learning and Simulation (CILS), opened in 2020, provides students with cutting-edge facilities including eight examination rooms, counseling spaces, and telehealth capabilities. This focus on practical, collaborative training ensures graduates are exceptionally well-prepared for real-world challenges in vital fields like nursing, physical therapy, physician assistant studies, and social work, fostering a collaborative and career-ready student experience. Complementing academic rigor, the $5.6 million Academic Wellness Center, opened in 2015, further enhances the student experience by providing essential support services.
