Dean College

Dean College stands as a distinguished private college with a rich history dating back to its founding in 1865. Under the leadership of President Mark Boyce, this institution has evolved from its origins as a pioneering co-educational academy into a vibrant center for learning today, supported by a significant endowment of $0.1 billion. The college's story began with Oliver Dean, who envisioned and established Dean Academy. His generous donation of nine acres of land and $125,000 laid the groundwork for what would become a thriving educational community. The inaugural class, consisting of 44 students, first gathered in October 1866. Despite an early setback when the iconic Dean Hall was destroyed by fire in 1872, the community's determination saw it meticulously reconstructed and reopened by 1874, embodying the spirit of resilience that continues to define the college.

Over the decades, Dean College has adapted and grown, reflecting its commitment to educational excellence. Its name transformed from Dean Academy to Dean Junior College in 1941, and then to Dean College in 1994, marking its full transition to a comprehensive college.
