Dean College

Step into the rich legacy of Dean College, a distinguished private institution with a history spanning over 150 years. Founded in 1865, Dean College has consistently upheld its motto, "Forti et Fideli Nihil Difficile" (To the Brave and Faithful Nothing is Difficult), guiding generations of students. Under the leadership of President Mark Boyce, this historic college continues to foster a supportive learning environment, rooted in a tradition of academic commitment and community.

Dean College's story began with the visionary philanthropy of Oliver Dean, who established Dean Academy in 1865 as a pioneering co-educational institution. His generous donation of nine acres of land and $125,000 laid the groundwork for what would become a significant educational pillar. The first class, comprising 44 eager students, commenced on October 1, 1866, marking the dawn of an enduring commitment to learning. The completion of Dean Hall, the academy's main building, in 1868 symbolized this vibrant new chapter.

However, the college's early years were also marked by resilience, notably when Dean Hall was tragically destroyed by fire in the summer of 1872. Undeterred, the community rallied, and reconstruction swiftly followed, with the new building proudly reopening on June 7, 1874. This spirit of perseverance is a testament to the institution's foundational strength. The school underwent transformations, first becoming Dean Junior College in 1941 and then proudly adopting its current name, Dean College, in 1994, reflecting its growth and expanded academic offerings. Today, students rally behind their spirited academic mascot, Boomer the Bulldog, embodying the college's dynamic and enduring spirit.
