Delaware State University

Delaware State University stands as a vibrant, state-assisted and privately governed historically black land-grant research university, led by President Tony Allen. Rooted in a rich history, the institution first opened its doors on May 15, 1891, as The Delaware College for Colored Students. Its name was later adjusted in 1893 to The State College for Colored Students to distinguish it from other state institutions, reflecting its unique mission. After steadfastly providing crucial educational opportunities through decades of change, the college officially became Delaware State University on July 1, 1993, a milestone signifying its comprehensive growth and expanded academic mission.
