Diablo Valley College

Diablo Valley College, initially established in 1949 as East Contra Costa Junior College, has grown into a major educational institution serving over 22,000 students across two campuses. This significant reach underscores its role as a vital pathway for students in the region, offering diverse educational opportunities.

Its history includes a notable challenge in 2007 when a six-year grade-fixing scheme came to light. The scandal involved allegations that more than 70 students used sex or cash to pay student employees for over 400 grade changes. This led to serious repercussions, with 49 students charged with misdemeanors or felonies, though a former student employee was later acquitted in the first trial.

Despite the gravity of the scandal, Diablo Valley College demonstrated resilience. The Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges confirmed that while the incident was a negative factor, it was unlikely to result in the loss of the school's accreditation. Today, DVC continues its mission, providing education and opportunities to thousands of students, upholding its commitment to learning on its two active sites.
