Founded in 1964, Divine Word College emerged from the legacy of St. Paul's Mission House, an SVD high school seminary established in Epworth, Iowa, in 1931. This local history is part of a larger, global narrative tracing back to the Society of the Divine Word's founding in 1875 in the Netherlands, quickly expanding its reach with missionaries sent to China by 1879 and to America by 1895. The SVD established its first U.S. seminary in 1909, setting a precedent for dedicated training that continues today.
