This legacy of global outreach began with missionaries like Joseph Freinademetz, who ventured to China by 1879, and extended to America with Wendelin Meyer in 1895. The SVD established its first U.S. seminary in 1909, culminating in the purchase of property in Epworth, Iowa, in 1931, which first housed St. Paul's Mission House, a high school seminary, before evolving into the college you see today.
