Dodge City Community College

Dodge City Community College (DC3) has a rich history deeply intertwined with the Ford County community, transforming from a modest institution to a vibrant educational hub. Founded in 1935 on the third floor of the Senior High School Building, DC3 quickly outgrew its initial home, demonstrating a consistent commitment to expanding opportunities for its students. Its journey reflects a steadfast dedication to accessible education for all.

A pivotal moment arrived in 1965 when the Kansas Legislature shifted control of junior colleges to locally elected boards. Ford County enthusiastically embraced this responsibility, voting overwhelmingly to support the college and electing its first board of trustees. This marked DC3's true emergence as a community college, directly accountable to the citizens it serves. The community's belief in DC3's mission was further solidified in 1966 when citizens endorsed a $2.5 million bond to support much-needed expansion, including additional occupational programs.

By 1970, DC3 celebrated its 35th year by opening a state-of-the-art new campus, which earned an award for its outstanding design from the American Institute of Architects. This modern campus, built on the former James Mooney Ranch, provided an ideal environment for learning and growth. To support the whole student, DC3 established its comprehensive Student Affairs Division in 1966, offering vital services like counseling, housing, campus activities, and recreational opportunities, ensuring a well-rounded and supportive college experience.
