Dordt University

Nestled in Sioux Center, Dordt University stands as a distinctive private institution, guided by its powerful motto, "Soli Deo Gloria"—To God Alone Be the Glory. Originally founded as Midwest Christian Junior College in 1953, Dordt quickly established its identity. A group of committed individuals from Christian Reformed Churches in Iowa, South Dakota, and Minnesota envisioned a college deeply rooted in Christian principles. The name changed to Dordt College in 1956, a profound choice honoring the historic 17th-century Synod of Dordt. This name was selected to serve as a constant reminder of the institution's rich heritage, its commitment to the faith of the fathers, and its unwavering dedication to the Word of God in every detail.

From its initial class of about 40 students in 1955 and its first graduating class of 18 in 1957, Dordt grew steadily, beginning to offer B.A. degrees by 1965. This evolution culminated in its designation as Dordt University in 2019, signifying its expanded academic scope and continued excellence.
