East Arkansas Community College

Born from the determination of St. Francis County citizens in 1968, East Arkansas Community College (EACC) was established to fill a critical educational void, offering accessible higher learning closer to home than the distant options in Memphis or Jonesboro. This foundational spirit of serving the local community remains at the heart of EACC's mission, evolving into a robust institution that addresses the needs of its students and the regional workforce.

The journey to EACC's opening was marked by significant community effort and support. A generous land donation of $25,000 in 1971 secured 40 acres in Forrest City, setting the stage for construction. Crucially, local voters approved a four-mill tax in 1973, demonstrating a collective commitment to financing the college. EACC officially welcomed its first 684 students on August 26, 1974, marking a pivotal moment in the educational landscape of East Arkansas.

Over the decades, EACC has continued to grow and adapt. An extension center in Wynne, Arkansas, opened in 2005, expanding its reach. A major development occurred in 2017 with the merger of EACC and Crowley's Ridge Technical Institute (CRTI). This strategic consolidation significantly bolstered EACC's academic and vocational offerings, integrating CRTI's property, personnel, and funding to provide an even more comprehensive educational experience for students pursuing technical and professional paths. Under the leadership of President Cathie Cline, who began her tenure in 2018, EACC continues its legacy of empowering students through diverse and relevant educational programs.
