Eastern Illinois University

Eastern Illinois University, a beacon of learning in Charleston, Illinois, boasts a rich history spanning over a century. Founded in 1895 as the Eastern Illinois Normal School, its original mission was to train teachers for the burgeoning schools of East Central Illinois. Over the decades, EIU has evolved significantly, broadening its academic scope and transforming into the comprehensive university it is today, reflected in its name changes from a teachers college to a full university by 1957.
