Eastern Michigan University

Eastern Michigan University (EMU), nestled in Ypsilanti, Michigan, stands as a dynamic public research institution, proudly classified among "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity." EMU's storied past began in 1849 as the Michigan State Normal School, marking it as the fourth normal school established in the United States and the very first outside New England. Its pioneering spirit continued in 1899 when it became the nation's first normal school to offer a four-year curriculum. Through various transformations, including becoming Eastern Michigan College in 1956, it ultimately achieved university status in 1959, solidifying its enduring legacy in shaping educational landscapes.
