Eastern Oregon University

Nestled in the picturesque landscape of Eastern Oregon, Eastern Oregon University (EOU) stands as a beacon of learning with a rich legacy rooted in serving its community. Opening its doors in 1929 as the Eastern Oregon Normal School, EOU began its journey dedicated to training the next generation of educators, laying the groundwork for a tradition of academic excellence and regional impact. Its first iconic structure, Inlow Hall, remains a cornerstone of the campus, embodying nearly a century of educational history.

Over the decades, EOU has dynamically evolved, reflecting its commitment to broader academic offerings and a growing student body. From its early designation as a "Normal School," it transitioned through various names—including Eastern Oregon College of Education and Eastern Oregon State College—before officially becoming Eastern Oregon University in 1997. This evolution wasn't just a name change; it represented a continuous expansion of programs, facilities, and its role as a comprehensive regional university. Milestones such as the addition of dormitories like Dorian Hall (1938) and Hunt Hall (1947), as well as significant academic and recreational facilities like the library (1951) and Quinn Coliseum (1958), underscore a sustained investment in the student experience.

The university achieved a significant milestone in 2015 when it gained independent governance, with the Eastern Oregon University Board of Trustees taking full charge of its direction. This move solidified EOU's autonomy and empowered it to chart its own course, ensuring its mission remains responsive to the needs of its students and the region. Today, under the leadership of its 13th president, Kelly A.
