Eastern Wyoming College

Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) stands as a vital public community college, dedicated to fostering accessible education and community development. With a student body of 1,505, EWC provides a close-knit learning environment, currently led by President Jeffry Hawes. Students at EWC benefit from a focus on practical skills and foundational knowledge, preparing them for further academic pursuits or direct entry into the workforce.

EWC's journey began in 1948 as the Southeast University Center, an extension of the University of Wyoming and an integral part of the Torrington School District 3. This initial structure laid the groundwork for higher education opportunities within the region, demonstrating an early commitment to local academic advancement.

A pivotal moment arrived in June 1956 when the citizens of the Torrington Public School District voted to establish the Goshen County Community College District. This transformed the institution into an independent subdivision with its own board of trustees, allowing for greater autonomy and tailored educational services. Over the subsequent years, additional school districts chose to join the college district, reflecting its growing regional importance. In December 1968, the college officially adopted the name Eastern Wyoming Community College District, solidifying its identity and commitment to serving a broader geographic area.
